Bottelier's 5-8 Leads The Way: Top 200+ Girls High Jump Returnees

Updated on 06/10/2022 | Dan Beck - MileSplit

Last year was a huge year for Lydia Bottelier of Palisades in the high jump. After winning the PIAA Class AA title as a sophomore, Bottelier has just been getting better and better. Last winter, she cleared 5-08 to win the indoor state title. Outdoors, she got even better, jumping a best of 5-10 and winning her second straight outdoor state crown.

She'll look to add to her state title collection this season. Though she will have no shortage of challengers from a deep group of high jump returnees.

Kayla Gillen of Twin Valley will be one to watch. She was fourth in 2017 and third last year at indoor states. Now a senior, Gillen, whose indoor PR is 5-07 and outdoor PR is 5-08, will look to give Bottelier a run for her money at PSU. Gillen missed time this past outdoor season, but should be a serious factor this winter. Easton's Kate Willshaw also cleared 5-07 last winter. She was seventh at indoor states and will be looking to improve upon that this season.

Council Rock North's Kate Donnelly just missed out on an indoor state medal last year, but had a big spring season that included a AAA state title at Ship, where she cleared a career best of 5-07. Donnelly, a junior, is back this year looking to add indoor gold.

Abington HeightsCalista Marzolino jumped a big PR of 5-6 last winter to take fourth at indoor states. She'll look for a similar performance this season, too. Quakertown's Kacey Lambinus and Cheltenham's Brianna Smith are among the other returning medals from the indoor state meet last year. Smith enters with a season best of 5-5 from last year, while Lambinus cleared 5-4 last winter. Nazareth Area's Kristen Karavitch cleared also cleared a best of 5-4 last year and should be a contender this season.
